"Without a Veil, I'm just a girl in a White Dress"

A bride and groom share an intimate moment outdoors, with golden sunlight glowing behind them on their wedding day.

You've found the dress. The one that makes you feel beautiful, confident, and completely yourself. But sometimes, even in the most stunning gown, there's that one little detail missing.

And then someone places a veil in your hair.

Suddenly, everything changes.

You catch a glimpse of yourself in the mirror, the delicate fabric falls around your shoulders, and for a moment, it all becomes real.

You're not just wearing a beautiful white dress anymore. You're a bride.

One of my brides once said something that has stayed with me ever since:

“If I don't have a veil, I'm just a girl in a white dress.”

                                                                                And I absolutely loved that!

A Little Fabric, A Whole Lot of Magic

As a wedding photographer, I've photographed hundreds of beautiful bridal details over the years. The gowns, the shoes, the jewelry, the florals. I love every single one of them!

But veils? Oh, veils have my heart.

There's something so effortlessly romantic about the way a veil moves. The way it catches the light, softens a portrait, or floats behind a bride as she walks toward her groom.

A veil adds another layer of elegance, movement, and emotion to your wedding photographs.

And when the wind decides to cooperate? Pure magic!

The Veil Shot. You Know the One.

The photograph where the veil is floating perfectly behind you.

Or the one where you're wrapped together beneath the veil, completely lost in the moment.

Maybe it's that stunning, full-length bridal portrait with your cathedral veil cascading across the floor.

Those are the photographs that make me want to squeal behind my camera!

No elaborate posing. No big production.

Just you, your veil, and a little bit of magic.

Cathedral, Lace, Pearl....OH MY!

One of the things I love most about bridal veils is how much personality they can bring to your wedding look. A long cathedral veil can make even the simplest gown feel incredibly grand. Delicate lace adds timeless romance. Pearls bring a little sophistication, while a simple tulle veil can feel modern, airy, and effortlessly elegant. And don't even get me started on embroidered veils!

Your veil doesn't have to match every detail of your gown perfectly. Sometimes the contrast is what makes the entire look so beautiful.

My photographer's tip? If you're dreaming of those dramatic, flowing veil photographs, consider a longer veil. Cathedral-length veils give us so much beautiful fabric to work with, especially for those gorgeous wide portraits.

Don't Take It Off Too Soon!

Keep your veil on for at least some of your couple's portraits!

I know, I know. After the ceremony, you're ready to celebrate, hug everyone, and maybe get that veil out of your hair.

But trust me on this one.

Give me just a few minutes with that veil before it comes off.

We'll capture the timeless, traditional portraits your family will treasure, and then we'll have a little fun creating something romantic, dramatic, and uniquely yours.

You can absolutely take it off for the reception. In fact, I love that little transformation from elegant ceremony bride to ready-to-party newlywed!

But those veil portraits? You'll be so glad we took the time.

And Then There Are the Moments You Can't Plan...

The way your new husband lifts it for your first kiss, or leans in close beneath it for a quiet moment together.

These are the little pieces of your wedding day that become part of your story.

And years from now, when you look back at your photographs, I hope you remember exactly how those moments felt.

So, Should You Wear a Veil?

My answer? If you've ever imagined yourself wearing one, even just a little bit, try one on.

You don't have to wear it all day. You don't have to choose the longest veil in the bridal boutique. And you certainly don't need one to be a beautiful bride.

But there's something special about that moment when you see yourself in the mirror, wearing your wedding dress with a veil framing your face.

Because I'll never forget what one of my brides said:

“If I don't have a veil, I'm just a girl in a white dress.”

Of course, every bride is beautiful with or without a veil. But for some, that one delicate detail is what makes the entire bridal look feel complete.

And from behind my camera, I can tell you one thing...

A beautiful veil will never go out of style. 🤍
